Food for Thought:
Let the children play
And sit like flowers upon thy grave
And crown with flowers, that hardly have
A briefer blooming-tide than they.

What?
Friday, March 25, 2005
My dear friend Birgid recently sent me a note and saying, "Guess there isn't much going on in your life" after checking my blog. Then I talked to Chris and she gave me a daughter-mother pep-talk about my blog. So...I decide to show that I really do have an active and interesting life when...WHAT? This isn't my blog! What has Dad done to my computer now! No...wait. It is my blog! Gee, thanks for the new look, Chris! I've got to check my own blog once and awhile...even if I don't want to write.
So...this modern matriarch is quite busy, though with far more free time than any of my children and most of my friends. This week I finished teaching the last marriage class and the last parenting class for this session. I'm grateful for a short break from preparing for these classes. I'm not an expert in either of these areas so I feel the need to work hard to understand and present the information in the text book. Needless to say, I have plenty of experience and I'm very knowledgeable in the "what not to do" column. I can speak to those who are struggling in their marriages and testify to the rewards of working through the problems. I can totally empathize with those who are struggling with their children and my message is usually to "relax" and "talk to them and love them and enjoy them." Every now and then, though, I get hit with a real tough question and I go running to the psychologists at LDS Family Services for help. Given enough time...I may be able to handle all questions...but we're talking a LONG time, I think.
I've been on the go with the death of my brother and my mother, and visiting Suzie and kids, and traveling with my "ever on the go" husband. I have been grateful for this week at home. We have quite a busy April planned...and a fairly busy May. Sheeeesh! Maybe I won't think about that right now.
Over the past few weeks I have made contact with family members that I haven't spoken to in years, and I've spent a fair amount of time responding to their emails and developing relationships. I love our new Family Address Book and knowing where most of our family members are. I just open it every now and then and ponder each family and how much I love them and am glad to be in touch with them again.
I've been working on the family reunion in November and ordering "stuff" for that. And I've been going to Institute and out to lunch with friends and neighbors and helping with Enrichment meetings and newsletters, and spending any free time Dad has looking for that perfect piece of land to retire on. We are getting to know Kansas pretty well! Every hear of Bucyrus or Le Cygne or Aubry? Me either, but...they are not too far out and quite lovely. No mountains but...big sky and country quiet and peace. We have a fairly busy dinner schedule with Sprint functions, and have been invited to join a Family Home Evening group with an especially nice group of couples our age in the stake. I am also making jewelry with some of the wives from Sprint, and visiting some of the fun neighborhoods and shops in the Kansas City area with one special friend from that group. Then Dad and I hit the movie theaters whenever we get a chance, and in a couple of weeks we are going to see Andre Rieu in Kansas City (can't wait for that!)and we are going to spend five days in Branson in May seeing some fun shows like Andy Williams and Petula Clark (downtown...downtown). I'm pretty spoiled.
So see, Birgid and Chris, I'm busy, even without kids or a "real" job. My life is good. My life is great! I'll try to be a better blogger so you don't worry about me. Check back soon!
