Food for Thought:

Let the children play
And sit like flowers upon thy grave
And crown with flowers, that hardly have
A briefer blooming-tide than they.

Have you heard of screenit.com ? It is an amazingly thorough review of all the latest movies and dvd releases. I mean, it is really detailed! It tells you exactly what the violence is, exactly what sexual acts there are, exactly what language is used that might be objectional, whether there is a lot of disrespect toward adults, etc. I think you'll like it. There is a paid version and a free version -- the paid version is ad-free. Check it out.

Oh...heavenly!

So...we are having cinnamon rolls and fresh fruit at Enrichment Meeting this week. You know how differently one recipe can turn out when made by several different women? Well, I was trying to come up with a very simple, fool-proof cinnamon roll recipe when I came across one that was made with Rhodes frozen bread dough. It sounded so easy, so off I went to buy the bread dough and try it. While looking at the bread dough I found Rhodes cinnamon rolls in a bag (not in the pan) ready to put in a pan, let rise and bake. Yes! This is really fool-proof and they can't come out too very different looking. So I bought a bag (12 rolls to a bag) AND a small carton of whipping cream which my recipe called for...interesting, eh? I went home, put the rolls in a 9 X 13" pan (all 12 of them!)and let them rise until double. Then, I poured 1/3 c. whipping cream over the top and baked them at 350F until they turned golden (not brown...golden). There were two packages of cream cheese frosting that came with the frozen rolls, so I squeezed them over the warm rolls and oh...heavenly! They were better than any Cinnabon cinnamon rolls I have ever tasted, and so easy! So...when you are in the mood for yummy cinnamon rolls but don't want to go to a lot of bother...you know what to do!

Rocky Mountain High!
Tuesday, April 05, 2005

We just got home from an extended weekend in Colorado visiting with Joseph, Suzie, and family. We drove, which is one of my favorite things to do, so I got to talk a lot and sleep a lot. Poor Dad. When we reached Joe's townhouse the skies were clear and the temperature mild and our wonderful weekend began. We had fun playing with the kids and going out to eat and visiting old haunts like the Museum of Natural History, the Planetarium, and Casa Bonita. The mountains are beautiful in Colorado Springs and I remembered how much I really love and miss them. (Not enough to move back there, but...wow!) We returned to our hotel Monday night at about 9:45, pretty tired from a long day of driving and playing. I got into my nightgown, washed my face and took out my contacts, then turned on the local news only to hear that a snowstorm was on the way. It was 56 degrees outside! There were no signs of the pending storm but...we lived in Colorado long enough to know we did not want to try to leave the next morning during a snowstorm. So...we threw our things in our suitcases, I got dressed again, and we were on the road by 10:30 pm. Ugh!

Dad drove straight until we reached Colby, Kansas, with his companion and helpmeet sleeping soundly beside him...occasionally rousing enough to ask if he was okay and not too sleepy. It was 3:30 am when we pulled into the hotel parking lot. We had escaped the winter hazards of Monument Hill near Colorado Springs, and I-70 from Limon to the Kansas border, and were ready for a long spring's nap. We can highly recommend the Comfort Inn in Colby...very comfortable beds.

We hit the road again at about 10 am, with the prairie winds blowing in true spring fashion, but the roads were dry and the skies blue and we had a very pleasant trip home.

My kind of fun...a true Rocky Mountain high!
