Food for Thought:

Let the children play
And sit like flowers upon thy grave
And crown with flowers, that hardly have
A briefer blooming-tide than they.

Home Again, Home Again...
Wednesday, November 23, 2005

It isn't often I say "enough!" when it comes to rides in the car. I have always loved rides in the car, and I still do, but...I've had enough driving for a few days. It is GOOD to be home! The Christmas lights were put up while we were away and it was lovely to drive up to our cheery, "Christmassy" house.

The family reunion was so much fun! Thanks to everyone for coming happy and staying happy and for bringing your wonderful families. We enjoyed every minute and can't wait to get all the photos together. You have given us many wonderful memories to call upon. Thanks so much!

We took the southern route to get home and drove through New Orleans. What a different place it is today from what we saw just under three years ago. It is a bit like a ghost town coming back to life. Many shops, hotels, restaurants are closed, but...a few retailers and food joints are open and we did see a couple of hotels that were open and looking good. There are hundreds of cars which have been towed to "graveyards" under the viaducts and we saw many broken signs, trees, windows, roofs and walls. It was very quiet and somewhat uncomfortable compared to the happy, vigorous community we visited in 2003. You Connecticut folks will be proud to know we saw New York Highway Patrol cars here and there, keeping the peace. Go New York!

We are home for just a few days, then on our way back to Salt Lake to tie-up all the loose ends. We changed our minds about the South Mountain condo and went back to our first choice, the condo in South Jordan. So...we will close on our land in St. George, and close on our condo in Salt Lake, and close on our new condo in South Jordan...all before Christmas. The market is slow here in Kansas City, so it may take a few months to sell our home here, but...we will move on over to Salt Lake as soon as the work on the condo is finsihed...hopefully the end of February. We left Stamford in February for Salt Lake and now we will leave Kansas City in February for Salt Lake. Hmmmmm. Not the best month for moving but...we do what we have to do, right?

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are sure thankful for you and the many blessings and joys you have brought into our lives.

What a week!
Saturday, November 05, 2005

We had a whirlwind week in Salt Lake City and surrounds. Dad and I just got home today (Saturday, November 5) and here is what we accomplished in just one little week:
1. We had breakfast with Birgid Park at the Village Inn and had such fun chatting and catching up on "things".
2. Had dinner with Dick and Sandy Webb, John Webb and family, Laura Webb and family, Michael and Denise and family and Aaron and Alice at the Golden Corral...total fun!
3. Had lunch with Dick and Sandy at a Mexican restaurant in Pleasant Grove and saw their home in beautiful Saratoga Springs.
4. Sold our property in St. George.
5. Put our condo on the market and got an offer one day later-- we think it is sold!
5. Looked at condos from Bountiful to Draper and finally bought one in Draper, on South Mountain, overlooking the whole valley...beautiful! (Just a mile or so from Charles and Deann Gallagher!)
6. Called our realtor in Kansas City and put this house on the market.
7. Went "trunk or treating" with Ashlie, Michael and Cameron -- so cute!
8. Visited with Marion and Dick (Marion just had knee surgery) and Wendy, who is playing nurse for a couple of weeks.
9. Ate out A LOT, hitting some of our favorite places...Hires, Crown Burger, Cold Stone, Baskin-Robbins, and an Aaron favorite, Jeremiah's.

...just to name a few of the things we did! There were many meetings with realtors and lots of phone conversations to get some of the real estate deals underway and others settled. We had four agents running in circles but...they will all benefit from the deals, of course.

We had so much fun and yet...it's nice to be home. Kansas and Missouri looked green and beautiful from the plane. The autumn colors are still in their glory and the temperature is in the 60's. We left a light frosting of snow in Salt Lake!

We are getting old, but we can still "boogie" when we want to!
